To circle back. I cant not 1000% support this based on the tanny argument. Tanny was a mess before smith and totally lost his job after him. With him, pro bowler.

@Southieinnc can verify that I may have spent a good bit of time crap talking tanny when he was with the phins. Howdy Southie, haven't talked much in a while.

It's completely uninspiring. Maybe it turns out to be a good move but it doesn't feel like it. Feels like a ceiling of "capable offense" and I was hoping for "prolific". But then again, with Tomlin as the coach that wasn't happening anyway. This is what it is for the foreseeable future. We'll have 3-4 years of mediocrity due to coaching and subpar quarterback play and then Tomlin will leave. After that, at some indeterminable time, we will find the next Ben. So... what, 2030 is our year? 2032?

Know what makes more sense to me now? Going out and getting Justin Fields. If you want to run and run only, get an RB at QB.

I heard on first take this morning, then actually fault other hires saying "you could of had arthurt smith"

Fans seem upset. Local media who are just ranters, are upset. Seems those in the football world like the hire. IM still taking the "he made tanny a pro bowler, and made derrick henry king".

Najee was over drafted. But he and warren have some real power. Najee especially needs to realize hes not this burner, he needs to run angry. Thats when things changed for king henry too. He was not king henry for years.

Smith was a mixed bag in Atlanta. When he arrived Matt Ryan was toast and his WR1 (Ridley) got suspended for the season. He was able to get some decent things out of the crap offense in 2022. Namely making Cordarelle Patterson look like a real RB. The team did a pretty poor job of building a team while he was there.

Looking at the Atlanta offensive rankings under smith:

2021 (QB: Matt Ryan, RB: Mike Davis)
Scoring: 26th
Total Yds Per Game: 29th
Rushing Yds Per Game: 31st
Passing Yds Per Game: 16th
TOP Per Game: 29th

2022 (QB: Marcus Mariota, RB: Cord Patterson)
Scoring: 15th
Total Yds Per Game: 24th
Rushing Yds Per Game: 3rd
Passing Yds Per Game: 31st
TOP Per Game: 13th

2023 (QB: Desmond Ridder, RB: Bijan Robinson)
Scoring: 26th
Total Yds Per Game: 17th
Rushing Yds Per Game: 9th
Passing Yds Per Game: 22nd
TOP Per Game: 23rd

And if they retain the existing staff under him I fully expect status quo.

This screams insecurity over KP... Not a bad move per se, It's a lot to handle for a QB to switch offensive schemes so they likely don't want to do too much to unsettle him.

True, my concern is, will it hinder actual change with the schemes and then KP can't grow as a QB?

I hear ya. But honestly I'm more concerned that Pat Meyer's bum ass is still in the fold. Now that would be considered handcuffing both the OC & QB.

If nothing else we can look forward to, Art Smith is an OL-focused coach with positive results and a good background for it.

So hopefully Meyer's shit gets clipped.

Things got better after Canada's weird ass crunch schemes got thrown out. But the main concern here is pass-pro. That really never improved.

Honestly, I don't think the players improved, it was essentially addition by subtraction.
If Smith can't force a change I fear for the worst with their o-line.

I'd be happy with him or the other two Centers.

JPJ in R1, or Van Pran/Frazier in R2.

If we don't come away with one of the three. It'll be a failure.
Same. I'm big on any of those 3. Wasn't very familiar with Frazier but he's growing on me.

Hobbling off the field after his injury to preserve the timeout shows heart and fire.

That in addition to his on-the-field track record gave him a boost. He's not going to fail through laziness, that's for sure.
