It's great to see young talent step up consistently going back to last season. Rua has only gotten stronger as the season has gone on, and has shown going back to last season that he can hit big league pitching every day. I still would like to see him take a couple walks, but he has flat out won the LF job IMO, and the competition that was designed for these purposes has been a huge success.

This is 100% right on target IMO.

I also think Smolinski has secured a backup OF spot, without question.

Unfortunately, I feel pretty sure DeShields is going to get an opportunity he doesn't deserve. He just hasn't earned it.

I agree. Hopefully he repays that gift in kind.

What sort of game does Ranaudo need to have to stay in contention for a rotation spot? Or is there even one available for him anymore?

2 runs (1 ER) in 8.1 innings with 11 Ks, a 1.2 WHIP and a .226 BAA looks bad?

Think this was a mistake by Wastin, maybe he was thinking of Beimel, who was released already I do believe. Think the team may add another LH'er now that Beimel and Ludwick aren't gonna make the club, they won't have cost much.

I don't see Ranaudo cracking the ML roster, think they would probably go with Tep even though he's looked bad so far. However unless there is an injury it appears to be:

Gallardo
Colby
NMart
Detwiler

Yes it does. It's going to be a long year. I don't think the offense is good enough to pick up the slack.

I would be fine with them getting Ohlendorf stretched out at RR once healthy and ready if a starter goes down. That way they can let Ranaudo and Chi Chi hone their skills at the minor league level and hopefully they won't have to use them too soon

Why would you replace Edwards? He has been pitching well and struck out the side last night. 13 K's in 8.2 IP with a 2.08 ERA.
