Les Paul and Stevie Ray Vaughn were 2 best from a strictly technical standpoint IMO. Jimi had more creativity maybe, but that dude could also have some stinkers when his head was not right.

Also, I know many of you never even heard of this guy, but I guarantee in the future he will be regarded as a legend... not only for his technical prowess, but god damn can he write some good tunes. He also does this guitar mastery on an 8-string. Steve Vai has called him the future of guitar virtuosos.

Tosin Abasi.

He shreds through scales. Neo-classical is so god damn boring. Not even close to the greatest guitarists list. IMO of course.

My #1 will forever be David Gimour. He was the reason I picked the guitar up. No one will ever match his tone. God damn do I want the tone from Animals. He isn't the best from a technical standpoint, but he is my #1 when it comes to writing riffs and licks.

There are probably some excellent ones too that never got famous. Some of those old bluesman really do not get enough credit because they just did not have good enough recording equipment back in those days and most did not have the money to do that sort of stuff anyway. Those guys were the inspiration to many of the people we are talking about here.

Blues is about soul, it's all about tone and letting it all out through your playing. That said, many blues guitarists just regurgitate the same ol' licks. Look at Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin for example. Great band, great guitarist, but they stole a ton of shit from the old blues artists. You want to hear some crazy good guitar playing from long ago, listen to some gypsy jazz.

Ted Nugent is good for the rock genre, but definitely doesn't belong on a greatest of all time list. You will of course have something to say in response to that.

That is only your opinion. I disagreed with some of your picks but didn't make any snide remarks. Maybe you should show others the same courtesy.
