Alvin Lee could play with the best of them, Toy Caldwell was a unique player. Charlie Daniels said Toy played the guitar as subtle as a virgin's first kiss or as hard as whore screwing on a Saturday night depending on the song.

Alvin Lee doesn't get enough credit. He lit the stage up at Woodstock.

Blues is about soul, it's all about tone and letting it all out through your playing. That said, many blues guitarists just regurgitate the same ol' licks. Look at Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin for example. Great band, great guitarist, but they stole a ton of shit from the old blues artists. You want to hear some crazy good guitar playing from long ago, listen to some gypsy jazz.

Nice. Impressive considering he only uses 2 fingers too.

The video of Ten Years After playing "I Can't Keep From Crying" really shows his versatility more. And the live set with Leslie West, et al is a great watch. And to think he originally wanted to play clarinet like Benny Goodman...

My #1 will forever be David Gimour. He was the reason I picked the guitar up. No one will ever match his tone. God damn do I want the tone from Animals. He isn't the best from a technical standpoint, but he is my #1 when it comes to writing riffs and licks.

Well if you like Gilmour you should really listen to early Trower, his tone on this song and the following song Hannah on Twice Removed From Yesterday is unearthly.

He shreds through scales. Neo-classical is so god damn boring. Not even close to the greatest guitarists list. IMO of course.

I got to tell you guys that everyone can debate over different types of guitar players but let's not forget Angus Young from AC/DC who really Rocks,is a true showman, and I dig his fucking energy every time he takes the stage. I think he is a fucking wild man which is so cool and what Rock is all about. I never heard anyone not satisfied with Angus Young. He really pumps me up.

Angus Young is a showman. He's good at playing power chords, I'll give him that.

SRV is a legend. Him and David Gilmour are the reason I'm a Fender man (pic below).

Alvin Lee is a great addition. I also like Rory Gallagher, but i wouldn't rank him in the top 15

I miss Eddie Van Halen. I saw somewhere where he had a wall of songs that have yet to be put together and put on a album. Come on Eddie show us something. We want more. Lets get Van Halen rolling again. Eddie can really rock. I sat one night with my binoculars near the stage upstairs in Oakland a few years back and could'nt take my eyes off of his fingers on his guitar working magic on stage. I really miss Van Halen.

Yep

And I loved being able to see him live.

Jerry Garcia had some moments of sheer brilliance, and many of drug fueled mindless doodling.
Got to see Randy Rhodes live, absolutely amazing.
I don't do lists, as music is subjective and personal. I go from Zeppelin, Floyd, Dead to Pantera and Ozzy.
Got to be room for Dimebag Darrell Abbott
