Highlight of the race:

Yeley's spotter: "There's a car crashed in turn 10"

Yeley: "That's us"

I'm getting the feeling this season can't end quick enough for Gordon.

I think it was a pretty good race today. Had some drama, wasn't a complete wreck fest, and I never thought it was possible, but I actually felt pretty good when Kyle and Kurt finished 1-2.

Harvick came home 4th. He and Truex both have 14 top 10's in 16 races. Not bad considering his pit crew's fuck up that cost him a lot of track position. Don't think he was ever really a contender for the win anyways.

Of the two road courses, I prefer Watkins Glen, but it was cool seeing the full grandstands in Sonoma and a pretty good race.

And like always, Ihope Gordon has the longest season of his career and he wishes he would have retired last season. I just dread hearing him in the tv booth next season.

We're probably about to see several guys retiring in the coming years. Smoke and Biffle should strongly consider retirement at season's end as well. Roush racing is going down the toilet and Smoke has clearly lost it, and I doubt he will ever get back to the championship contender that he once was, and it's painful to me as a fan of his seeing him struggle this badly. It's more than a bad run. Harvick and Kurt Busch are tearing it up in the same equipment. The broken leg and the Kevin Ward accident took the fire out of him or something.

I think you are right chewbaccer. The decline in racing and competitive sharpness is evident to many observers and it appears that after the broken leg and especially the incident where Kevin Ward was killed, Tony is not the same racer he once was. This decrement is similar to the decline many witnessed with Kyle Petty after Adam was killed.

Kyle Petty was never good. Tony was very good.

I won't say he can't come back. He needs to get in shape, shed some lbs and focus. If he can't, might as well retire and become a full time owner. Not exactly a horrible option, but probably not his first.

not true, Petty had a pretty good run in the 42 Mello Yello Sabates car.

When I was a preteen I would get in on my grandpa's race ppol. Draw two drivers, top three pays. One week I drew position two in qualifying. I felt good about my chances. Kyle Petty qualified second for that race and my other driver was Brett Bodine. Needless to say I didn't get close to the money that week.

Harvick, Johnson, Kenseth and Dale Jr are all around the same age and could retire in the next 5 years or so. Both are either 40 or knocking on its door.

Stenhouse and Bayne aren't getting it done at Roush. I can see giving Stenhouse a shot but Bayne should have never gotten the 6 ride IMO. Bayne has been the worst driver amongst the big teams this year. Roush needs to get thier sh#t together in the off season.

not true, Petty had a pretty good run in the 42 Mello Yello Sabates car.

True story, I once saw Kyle Petty doing some Mello Yello promotion at an interstate truck stop in Tennessee. They had his car there and everything.

He looked like a chick from behind.

At any rate, Kyle Petty was a no talent hack who tried to kill people when he couldn't beat them.

Straight up wrecked 2 people here and still couldn't get the win. Never liked him, never will.

indeed, I thought about that as well. I'm curious to see how long some of them hang around. Today's modern driver is in such better shape than past generations of drivers, Jimmy Johnson is in such good shape he could easily race until hes 60 ( not saying he will).

Stenhouse and Bayne are unproven talent. Biffle was once a championship threat and a threat to win most every week. I don't know what happened to Roush, they used to be one of the best teams in NASCAR, but now They're about on par with the mid to low level teams. I don't think Greg Biffle has forgotten how to drive, he just hasn't been given a car capable of competing. Jimmy Fenning and Carl Edwards are the only reasons Roush has been relevant since Kenseth left. Now both are gone and Roush is no longer a premiere team.

All of them are in great physical shape. And guys like Dale Sr stayed competitive until he died, finished second in points at age 49 in 2000. They have the ability to race a long time I think, but with NASCAR getting on board the concussion protocol and everything, I doubt they'll keep on full time much past 45, and I don't want to see any of them doing like the Labonte brothers were doing and driving part time for shit teams.

Harvick is at the prime of his career right now, he's not going to any time soon, Dale Jr. is finally starting to have fun so he won't either, Johnson probably won't. I could see Kenseth within the next 5 years retiring though, he has declined not by much but seems like he's gone from a championship threat to just a chase threat.

I agree I don't know what their problem is, can't really judge Stenhouse and Bayne until the cars are better, Stenhouse was really good in nationwide, even beating the cup guys, he clearly has talent, but of course Roush has to somehow get their cars more competitive.

I get the feeling that the prime of Harvick's career was wasted in sub par RCR equipment. He had some success at RCR, but he was nowhere near as strong as he is now.

But you never can tell, all are around 40.

Bayne never really impressed me in the Busch series either. That Daytona 500 win is the only thing he has going for him. Stenhouse has shown signs of greatness in his Cup career, he just needs a good ride.

Penske uses the same equipment and they are competitive, so I really don't have an answer for why Roush has went so far down hill.
