With a 56 yard field goal from a then walk-on backup field goal kicker, as time ran out in last night's game, Nevada upset Purdue. In fact Nevada was down 24-7 at halftime but came back and outscored Purdue 27 to 7 in the 2nd half including the last second 56 yard field goal by the walk-on backup placekicker. That walk-on field goal kicker was awarded a scholarship in the post game celebration by Nevada's head coach.
Meanwhile Utah State seemed to have their game last night vs Wake Forest in hand but then Utah State apparently decided to simply give away the game to Wake Forest. Total meltdown by Utah State. After taking the lead with just under 14 minutes left in the game at 35-31 Utah State gave up a 70 yard pass play that was initially ruled a touchdown but after review was spotted at at Nevada 1 yard line with 2:19 left in the game. After stopping 3 straight runs at the 1 and 2 yard line Nevada gave up the go-ahead touchdown via a 2 yard pass with 1:08 left in the game. Then when Nevada had moved the ball on the following possession from their own 25 yard line to the Wake Forest 31 yard line with 23 seconds on the clock Utah State's QB threw a ridiculous pass that was intercepted by Wake Forest's Justin Strnad with 18 seconds left on the clock.
