With Almora tracking the ball and making catches like last night, and Heywoods usual slow start in April and May, I am pretty sure he is given off days, but nothing that could be considered a benching. Javy with two errors on one play (one was deserved) and then ending the game with a gem, you sure better keep Zobrist happier than Heywood.
I still had no problem with last years original plan, Heyward to center. Fowler showed back up and it pushed him back to right. His bat is decent enough for center with the defense, but not for right.Paid him way too much to bench him, and with all the offense you already have you can use his glove in the OF, he's still one of the best defensive outfielders in the league, doesn't make up for his atrocious hitting but w/e.
Fowler got 82.5M over 5. I don't see what Jay's contract has to do with that.I still had no problem with last years original plan, Heyward to center. Fowler showed back up and it pushed him back to right. His bat is decent enough for center with the defense, but not for right.
We were also fine this year with the outfield options of Heyward, Schwarber, Bryant, Zobrist, Almora and Sczcur. Even stretch and put Contrares in left again. What the hell was the sense in bringing in John Jay for 8 million, and then in that same breath, claim it did not slam the door on Fowler returning.

You dont see the point in already having 7 guys that can play the outfield and signing an 8th for 8 million dollars?
Each time Jay is out there, Almora is not. How about that?
Opposing it because it is going to limit Almora's playing time is different than opposing it because you were having unrealistic fantasies about Fowler returning. The most used OF should be Almora, Heyward and Zobrist. Schwarber should have been traded. Zobrist in RF instead of Heyward has cost the Cubs one game and arguably two due to the difference in their arms.
Heyward was never brought in to play CF. He was going to help cover CF, if needed, until Almora was ready.
