It may be painful, but I think Hudson is gone. This pushes him out of the rotation, and I really don't see him as a bullpen guy.

This is exciting, but not good at the same time.

Kelby and the Giants overhauled his swing in the Fall League, and he has seen excellent results with it. Pretty much a singles hitter, but his swing is a simple, compact stroke and he makes a ton of contact. Perfect for a speed guy like him. Evidence: pre-overhauled swing, 20%-23% K rate and post-overhauled swing, 12%-16% K rate.

Speaking of speed, he's a 60+ runner on the scale. At the least, he's a late-inning speed guy who can play SS or 2B (pretty much what Adrianza provides, little less defense, little more speed). At best? Maybe an Emilio Bonifacio.

Do you all see a platoon between Adrianza and Tomlinson being formed now or will Adrianza get the starts, at least initially? Not sure who else would fill in with Arias gone.

In their minor league history, Adrianza has hit right-handers better and Tomlinson has hit left-handers better. So I could see a platoon. Don't know what the plans are yet though.

Then again, Tomlinson has hit everyone better. He has a significantly higher OPS against lefties though.

Yet this may be the chance for the front office to get an idea if Adrianza can hit at the big league level with regular playing time.

EA is the defensive guy. Tomlinson is the guy with the bat and the speed. If they can both establish themselves, there is definitely room for both of them.

But wouldn't you agree that if Adrianza shows something with the bat, coupled with his defense, the front office would be a lot more comfortable going into 2016 with him as the primary back up?

I'd love to see the two of them as bench players in 2016, being a fan of farm guys making the team.

He would have squatters rights, yes. And Tomlinson has options.

If the team only wants one util player, and both are performing somewhat equally, EA wins.

Arias was a good Giant, played his role, never openly bitched about his role on the team, and played solid defense around the IF. I'm glad he's still with the org.
