Sounds like he can't even resume baseball activities for at least 4-6 months, and who knows if it even goes well. His career is probably over, at least in an SF Giants uniform. Thanks for the 2012 memories. Bad $21M investment.

Yes and no. Without him, there is no 2012 WS trophy. Probably three years was one or two too many, though. We did get very good value in 2013, but 2014 was nothing, and it looks like 2015 will be more of the same.

You're eating apples and oranges. It was a STUPID contract, as I said at the time. The contract was signed after the 2012 season. BAD contract.

Reference: Huff after WS victory.

Peavey officially signs.

Kick DFA'd and claimed by the Cubs.

Vogelsong resigned for 1/4

No news yet on the counter 40 move. I would expect Dominguez, Parker, Brown, Cordier or Heston. Put a gun to my head, I think it is Heston.

Good to have Vogey back. Good leader in the clubhouse and can still pitch. A steal for the Giants.

Dominguez was officially released.

I think this is actually a pretty good sign. The org feels they have enough depth at OF in Sacto that they don't need him.

Considering Dominguez was actually a 3B who spent some time in the OF, I don't feel that comfortable. I guess the Giants are more happy with Duvall, but it's not as if the high minors are stuffed with top IF prospects ...

This is always guesswork at best on our part. I trust that Bobby Evans and John Barr know what they're doing. If they think CriDom wasn't worth a roster spot....he probably wasn't.

Once in a great while you'll get a Rajai Davis result, but most of the time it's a John Bowker (who is BACK!).

Giants signed 1B/OF John Bowker to a minor league contract.
The 31-year-old has spent the past three seasons playing in Japan where he slashed .239/.294/.420 with 24 homers and 78 RBI in 239 games. He represents nothing more than organizational depth for the Giants. Jan 24 - 2:22 PM

This was mentioned in the massive thread at the time. It happened at about the same time the org signed Hicks to a minor league deal and released Dominguez and Scutaro.

Nice to see one of the orphans come home, but I do not expect him to see any time in SF outside of a complete plague befalling the teams.

The tweet (didn't imbed) informs us : Gary Brown was DFA’d to clear a 40-man spot for Maxwell.

Wow.

I gotta say, I have yet to recognize Sabean's genius in this move.

Kontos or Machi are going yo have to be removed from the roster in the coming days, so why not use THAT slot for Maxwell?

There is no chance he will clear waivers and some other team is going to have themselves a decent little Blanco-like player, I think.

My guess: because either the competition between Macho and the Assassin is too close to call yet OR they plan on trading one of the two imminently.

Gary Brown is a disappointment. I don't really care if another team claims him. But the Giants might be able to trade him (they have 10 days to make a deal since he was DFA'd).
