They have the pitching to win in the mid to high 80s even with their defensive and batting issues, but if they fail to use some solid trades it's likely to fall short. Hell, they might not be able to afford to wait until the end of the trade deadline. They have to be aggressive if they care at all about being in contention for the post season. And to not do so would be a crime to waste this rotation.
Biggest fear though is ownership most likely won’t buy out a contract in a trade and Jerry has only once really traded top prospects. Someone could argue the Marte/Walker deal but Walker was a prospect still but so was Haniger. In Jerry’s tenure he has mostly been subtracting from the big league roster to get a prospect or making lateral prospect trades.

The biggest problem IMO is this roster is going to have an issue getting better because they have a full time DH (which is they could’ve used last year desperately) Upgrading at RF, 1B, 2B or 3B is tough cause Haniger should be getting AB’s, Rojas has earned a starting spot and if Polanco and France are put on the bench it is a wasted roster spot because they would provide nothing useful to the team.

Plus the Mariners are going to have the Canzone problem coming back where the dude shouldn’t play in the field at all but he can’t DH either.
