Reggie Crawford was assigned to Richmond. That’s a SUPER aggressive placement for a kid as raw as he is. Good sign on the surface.

That is really aggressive, especially since they didn't want him starting the season with any team.
It is also odd considering how much they've kid gloved him up to now.

Not even remembering, if posted here, Bart being traded for Austin Strickland can't find any milb info. College stats are pedestrian and hasn't played any in organized ball at least this year. Possibly extended Spring or other type situation. Could he be the Proverbial Injured Pitcher I speculated that Bart would be traded for in an earlier post of mine? If so that would be kinda funny seeing as he doesn't come with any rep. :D:brick:

Found his College Stats here: Austin Strickland Amateur & College Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com
Harder to read stats now days haven't kept up with good levels of things like WHIP but let me know how his stats read.

He was an 8th rounder in last year’s draft, and didn’t play pro last year. No idea why. He is a lotto ticket. I assume the org was aware of him going into the draft and liked him. But kids at this level of their development are complete wildcards.

Since he hasn't pitched after being drafted and no stories of him pitching in spring training....is he another Tommy John guy like the Giants have taken on in the past? I am partly kidding about TJ but it seems he would be injured to not have pitched since his draft year. I imagine he must be signed as they would have said his rights and not the the player was traded. I would hope someone better at reading stats from his College stats would give an evaluation of them. But I did kinda predict an injured pitcher in an earlier posting would be made for Bart and I was hoping it was just a joke. Can't think nay other reason why he doesn't have a record in the minors even.

It is pretty standard for guys like this to start their pro career in rookie ball, even if it is the subsequent year to being draftdd

That may be true but if not injured he isn't an 18 year old highschool guy, he played three years in in College anyone would expect him to start playing right away. Would a three years College player go to instructional assignment? We don't have any answers and I would think if a team trades a former high first round player that we should hear something about that player and his progress at some point. I can't think of a reason besides injury for the silence. I don't think so, but sweeping under the rug a modest return for a former high pick could be a reason, though his DFA at a point after other teams had made their rosters, so getting him through, was good idea, but it would still limit any return. Kinda sad as he a a few bright moments and I still had some hope he would show it with the Giants. I still think he could blossom in Pittsburgh.

Richmond seems to be reverting to a hitters' graveyard again.

The Eastern League, or whatever it now is, has ALWAYS been a hitters graveyard. If you can hit there, you can hit anywhere!
Maybe it was just the quality of hitters for a couple of years but it seemed that more guys in Richmond were, you know, actually hitting.

I'm thinking more along the lines of measuring success by OPS. Setting the threshold somewhat arbitrarily at .800 (and a minimum 100 ABs prior to 2024):
2024 (thus far):
Christian Koss - 2.075 (3 games and currently injured)
Damon Dues - .913

2023
Meckler - .881
Matos - .842

2022
Schmitt - .895
Emery - .815

2021
Villar - .881
Rincones - .878
Fernandez - .801

2019
Shaw - .868

2018
Sands - .857
Gomez - .813

2017
Shaw - .901
Sands - .885
Gindl - .868

2016
Slater - .903
Duggar - .823

Okay, maybe it hasn't changed.
