I thought it was strange to move the High A league to the Pacific NW. That weather is perfect for short season A ball. But since there is no longer short season A ball, I still don't get it for the reasons you state. It is hard for your better A level players to develop if they are rained out 2-3 times a week!
Didn't they do the same move with the Carolina League and some other lower league?

According to Wiki:
Single-A (2022–present)
Low-A (2021)
Class A-Advanced (1990–2020)
Before that, who knows?

The league began in 1945.

The longest running team was the Winston-Salem Cardinals/Twins/Red Birds/Red Sox/Spirits/Warthogs/Dash who played until 2020, when they went to the South Atlantic League (A+)

Just found out that the Giants' 5th round pick from 2021, Rohan Handa, retired this past December. He finished his professional career without throwing a single pitch in a minor league game.
LOL

I just did the Rohan Handa deep dive like 3 or 4 days ago. How random.

He was a bit intriguing when the Giants drafted him but not heard from again. I never read what ailments kept him sidelined for his entire career. Too bad we never got to see what he could have done.

I think he had some health issues with family, and then I think he just had arm issue after arm issue. He was never able to get any traction because of this.

I did remember reading something about him just after the draft and found the article link in that draft's thread. I do wonder if the things he changed with Tread Athletics did his arm in.

Edit: Just found this article about him.

Some River Cats stats:

Ramos OPS 1.136, 4 HR, 13 RBI in 52 ABs
Wisely OPS 1.052, 1 HR, 4 RBI in 41 ABs
Luciano OPS .854, 0 HR, 9 RBI, 51 AB
Matos OPS .711, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 42 AB
Schmitt OPS .684, 3 HR, 12 RBi, 58 AB

I don't know what more Heliot needs to do. Wisely is just waiting for Ahmed to implode.

Black 1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, .224 BAA, 13.2 IP
Romero 1.10 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, .232 BAA, 16.1 IP
Seymour 2.31 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, .279 BAA, 11.2 IP
Whisenhunt 13.50 ERA, 2.38 WHIP, .361 BAA, 8 IP
Jefferies 4.82 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, .257 BAA, 9.1 IP

Looks like we have a couple of near-ready starters and a bullpen arm close to the bigs. Whiz is still very young for AAA.

Black looks closest to ready among the pitchers you listed. Seymour seems to be piecing it together right now. I'd like to see a few more starts from him at AAA before declaring he is even nearly ready.

And I really hope Schmitt turns it around soon. He is free falling right now. He could get stuck in Ramos' land. Ramos is tearing it up but the talk about helping the lineup still seems focused on Matos.

I am fearing we send Heliot out for a flame throwing arm that's is recovering from surgery and Heliot blasts his way in a band box stadium and the pitcher we get never throws an inning even in the minors. Well not necessarily a pitcher but same Idea whomever we get. :tsk:

P.S. Some players just get disliked in an organization that will never give that player an even chance. It's weird when it happens and sometimes that player gets revenge... I could see him getting revenge for 10 years against the Giants. Not that I think it's certain he will be a good or very good player but would like to see him make it here.

There was a lot of fanfare about Ramos early in his prospect career but he has two strikes against him - he has struggled at AAA and is not one of FZ's picks. The latter, I think is really working against him and the former is being used as an excuse to do the latter. He has struggled at the big league level too but there have to be two considerations into looking at his big league numbers - (1) He was really young, most guys that age don't do well; and (2) his playing time was very sporadically and when consistent, short lived. Think about Matt Williams, it took him 3 years at the big league level to establish himself. Thankfully, that Giants' regime was patient with him and continued to give him extended looks.

At this point, I'd be okay with the Giants trading him to a team that will actually give him a chance, if FZ really does have a thing against guys who came up from the farm but signed by the previous regime (which, if true, is really dumb, especially considering FZ's love of picking up other teams' rejects). I hope it doesn't come to him punishing the Giants for the next 10 years but I'd prefer that to him not getting a chance going forward.

I haven’t checked the stats, but I think Schmitt is actually warming up. He has had several multi-hit, multi-RBI games in the last week. And he is 2nd on the team in RBI’s. He’s 8-13 with three homers in the last three games. Would love to see that continue.

He had a full season in the bigs that exposed big holes in his game. I trust that the org knows what he needs to work on, and success in the minors doesn’t necessarily indicate he has closed those holes.

With the A's (temporarily?) moving to Sacramento, where will the Giants' AAA affiliate go? I do know a city that they could return to.

I haven’t seen Bryce Eldridge the last few games. Did he get injured or on leave?

Hello Cmandc. Welcome to the Giants' forum on SportsHoopla. Please visit the Introduce Yourself thread to learn more about the posters here and share about yourself too.

I looked at Eldridge's player card on milb.com. He is still on the active roster but hasn't played since April 10th. I would guess he is dealing with something but haven't heard anything about it.

Thank you for the reply. Surprise there isn’t much information on their top prospect. Hopefully, nothing serious.
