Although our dmen are the featured players, it is my hope that some forwards could stand out, we really could use some help on the 3rd & 4th line this year.

Dumoulin is probably the only one who has a shot of getting any sort of time with the big club

Probably true, hope Dumoulin steps up big time like Despres did last season.

I just hope we commit to their development and give them necessary playing time.

I think there will be more opportunities for these guys going forward. Especially with the back 2 lines & 3rd defensive paring. Would rather have Dumoulin as the 6th dman instead of Engelland. Hopefully we'll see some cameo appearances by Derrick Pouliot as well.

Disco loves Engelland way too much. I don't think he'll be able to control himself and not play him

True, plus we need an enforcer. Engelland has his purpose but would like to see some young guys get some chances. Kind of sux to have this pipeline only to never use it.

Bortuzzo is a pretty good fighter if I remember correctly. Maybe not a heavyweight, but there aren't too many left in the league.

Sort of sux that our 6th dman will probably be the best fighter instead of the best player.

What about bringing back Eaton? Dude was nails all last year. Get rid of Oprik and Nisky...

Sup scouty! Nice to see you here. You bring up a good point about bringing back Eaton. Maybe with Eaton & Scuderi we got a formidable blue line. I would rather keep Orpik if we can tho, it would be nice to have a defensive anchor on each defensive paring.

Hey Scouty, glad to see you. You must be loving life with the Duper re-signing. I'm glad to see him back, too. I'm not so sure that 4th year will be worth it, but I can live with it. Nisky is way gone, and I could see Orpik being moved too if Silent Ray gets an offer he likes.

Exactly. I think the pipeline is really just a holding tank of trade bait. To play Engelland at the expense of one of these young guys is absolutely nuts. I think I might go and watch he scrimmage tomorrow a the prospect camp.

Yeah, we were all stoked about Joe Morrow only to give him up for a short term acquisition. I don't even think we needed to give up Morrow for Morrow we just did it because we have an unused pipeline.

Defenseman looking good... maatta dumoulin Samuelsson pouliot.. haven't heard Harrington yet...

WBS color guy just said Maatta will be returned to Jrs, his age... so same should be applied to Pouliot

Probably true, Pouliot, Maatta, & Harrington are still a bit young. Only guys I see making any sort of impact this year are Dumoulin or maybe Samuelsson.

Did you guys think anyone stood out this year? Last year Simon Despres really stood out, this year seemed sort of blah to me.

I heard the Trib beat writer Josh Yohe on radio yesterday saying he came away most impressed with Olli Maatta. Said he was very impressed with how the young Fin has been trying to add bulk to an already pretty tall frame at 6'4". His positioning and understanding of the game as a young defenseman seems to be very advanced. Called Maatta the complete package and that he could force Pens management to make a difficult choice when September rolls around and training camps gets going.
