Did the math, the Kings will get approximately $4.4 million in cap space, not the full $5.75 million because of Cap Recapture penalty of $1.35 million per season from 2015-2020.

His 4 seasons here, the Kings got a cap benefit of $6.75 million [$29.75 million Actual Cash - ($5.75 AAV million x 4 years = $23 million total Cap Hit) = $6.75 million savings] - divide by his contract years left (5) = $1.35 million per year.

I totally forgot about that and just did the math, and if this sticks...holy balls Dumbo is a friggin genius. Cut the Buyout Penalty in half in terms (10 years vs. 5 years) and Penalty Amount by $7.92 million ($14.67 million Buyout Dollars vs $6.75 million).

Dumbo should get GM of the year if this works out.

Still want to know what Richards did.
Did he call a potential trade partner and threaten to not report?
Did he not show up for his exit interview?
Did he burn the Bailey costume with the guy still in it?

Ok after some thought, I think this may bite the Kings in the butt in another way. How do Ther players see this? Some may think this is stab in the back and may not want to perform or re-up their contracts. In the late by term free agents may not want to come here to play if they see this as a negative. I hope dumbo knows what he is doing

I think it depends on what the material breach was. If it is something related to off ice I think the players would look at Mike Richards, not so much Dean.

Buddy of mine just let me know about this, and rumors are drugs and a possible border stop between Canada and the USA this past weekend.

The Kings are going to skate on this one if true and good lord, WTF is with the drugs and off ice issues with LA if true?

I keep reading about cap recapture but that was only if a player retires. I'm not sure how they can hit the Kings with a cap recapture since Richards hasn't retired.

They would be hit on the years they had his services, not on future years (obviously). He may not have retired but the Kings were able to get some cap savings when he was here.

I think in this case, especially if what my buddy (from Canada and still has close ties there) said is true and the "off ice incident" certainly points that way, the Kings should not be hit with any penalty if it's a serious charge. The Kings dotted their Is and crossed their Ts, tried to do everything possible to get him going and give him a chance, this is on Richards and Richards alone.

If this is truly what happened
- Mike Richards is a complete dumbass
- his decline in play is explained
- Dumbo is not a genius, he got extremely lucky

Been an insane 8 months in LA.

So Dean was actually on the up and up and stopped talking to other teams about a trade. Whatever the heck the issue is, there is a very good chance the Richards maybe done in the NHL.

Just making stuff up here.
Using the rumors (since we have no facts)
Mike stopped at border for drugs but not arrested but bad enough for Kings to terminate contract and league to ok that.
That makes me think it might be steroids. Maybe something legal in Canada and/or the USA but he had too much to cross the border with. Those might be against the CBA.
And we thought this would be a boring week for Kings fans

Pretty crazy and lucky for Deano if it all works out. I cant see the way Deano has handled Richards as anything but positive to teammates and FA's.

Still don't think Richards ever recovered from the Bolland hit on Richards back in the first PO series v Chicago. I wonder if it was drugs, was it a PED as Dav pointed out. Maybe something to help him get back in the game seeing as he was a shell of his former self. I guess time will tell

If it was drugs at the border, knowing what was happening to Stoll at the time, Mike is an IDIOT

Oxycodone - confirmed. Pain killers and also highly addictive.

I have also heard they were labeled something else in the containers they were in, lab tests would confirm otherwise. If they were not prescribed, taking a drug of that nature across international borders (depending on the amount) is pretty much the kiss of death. Has dude never seen Locked Up Abroad?

Kings will be able to walk on this one me thinks. Lombardi absolutely won the lottery on this one.

Wow pain killers! This is insane, possession is one thing, intent to distribute is another. The fact the Richards camp has been quiet makes you wonder.

That's all I have from source so far, and I trust him - one of the few connections to Canada I still know is legit. He gave me the information about the border incident 4 hours before Baldy reported it on TSN, and he has now given me this. Dude is gold for me and I'm happy to share without disclosing who he is.

Now keep in mind the amount is not confirmed, it could be legitimately prescribed, it could be an illegal amount, who knows. But it's a well known fact Oxy runs rampant in the NHL and this is the drug that has led to suicides in recent years like Belak, Boogaard, Montador. It's a very serious issue. We don't hear as much about it either but cocaine is a drug of choice for NHLers too, Stoll was rumored to have been moved because he liked the nose candy in Edmonton.

As I get more information I'll post it, but right now it's not looking good for Richards.
