Got this from the Wikipedia of splorts.... Bleacher Report.... In a nutshell, they are saying Adidas sucks bawlz. What say you all? I'll agree that I've HATED the alternate unis the last couple years and I do think Adidas has been way behind the curve. How do sponsors work? Can a team just drop them like a coked out hooker? Or is it more complicated than that? I know a lot will say it doesn't matter because uniforms don't win games. But you can't doubt that it helps with recruiting.

The current deal will be up some time in 2018. We signed a 5 year extension with Adidas in the spring of 2013 to the tune of ~$15 million in cash and gear. That's more than Oregon gets from Nike. I think it's safe to say we will be sticking out the rest of our contract with them. They tried to find a better deal elsewhere in 2013, but the other offers we got weren't close.

I just read the article and I had forgotten that adidas bought Reebok. What they need to do is figure out whoever is managing the Reebok hockey division, and promote them to run the whole company. Reebok went from completely nonexistent in the hockey world to one of the premiere brands, much like Under Armour has done. Reebok has the jersey deal for the entire NHL, and sponsors several top players including probably the most recognizable face in hockey, Sidney Crosby. They also outfit several top goaltenders, which is great from a branding standpoint:

Basically, Reebok hockey has done a great job of going into a new market and making themselves the "cool" thing to have. And they have not done it by being overly flashy, but by making good, well-designed products. Higher-ups at adidas should take note.

I had to bang my head against the wall when the old white guys upstairs decided to sign another long contract with them.

Sad as it is, Nike would seriously help us where we need it: Recruiting.

Problem is, Nike wouldn't come close to the deal adidas gave us monetarily. Like I posted earlier, we get more $$ from adidas than Oregon does from Nike, and they are their top dog as far as showcasing the brand. Maybe with more money coming in from elsewhere the idea of making the switch and losing some money on the deal to benefit recruiting would be more seriously looked at. I know we talked to Nike (among others) when the last deal was up, but they couldn't come close to matching the adidas deal.

We make the money back by drawing in better recruits and winning bigger games.

Crackpot theory? Maybe, but don't be so sure adidas isn't holding us back

I would agree. And I would also think that if the new staff asked for it, they would get it. Not sure if it is actually a big deal in recruiting, or if it is something us fans have blown out of proportion. Obviously schools like Oregon are gonna get kids who want the "cool" stuff, but realistically, what are we going to do with our uniforms that will impress recruits, yet not have 3/4ths of the state marching on Memorial Stadium in outrage? I think that article brought up a great point...classic can be cool. Alabama does it, and they don't have any problems recruiting.

Alabama keeps it classic. And they're a Nike school.

That's what I want. Don't fuck with it, just have Nike gear though. Nike makes a better classic uni than Adidas.

PSU, Texas, Florida, LSU, USC, Oklahoma.

Our "classic" jerseys currently have all that fucky looking stretch material around the chest.

The gear is I think the most valid point. I think adidas' problem is that they feel like they have to keep up with the uniforms Nike puts out, when really, the more important issue is putting out products (shoes and other gear) that kids want to wear. That goes back to my Reebok hockey analogy...they simply made great products, got a few superstars to wear them, and took off. THAT is what adidas needs, not the horseshit alternate uniforms they seem to want to churn out every year.

I am pretty sure the un-official NIKE money going to Oregon is quite large.

I did not know that Reebok was NHL. Thanks for the knowledge. I was raised on CCM.

well, if the contract is through 2018, then adidas has a few years to try and get it right. I personally don't have a preference what we wear, however understand how it can impact recruiting. I'd go with Under Armour over Nike, just to say you have something different. last i knew UA was pretty popular with high school athletes.

Maybe it's just me, and I'm not a high school kid anymore although I'm not THAT far off, but I would rather have Adidas than Under Armour. I don't think they would be any better...just look at Maryland.

eh, Maryland is the exception. Auburn, South Carolina, Notre Dame are the biggest names using them. looks like Northwestern and MD are the only 2 Big Ten schools, Texas Tech is the only Big 12 and I don't see any PAC 12 schools on their list, so seems like a decent opportunity to sell something different to recruits in the states we recruit in.

as far as HS kids, not sure, i'm way past that age. my bro who is a high school AD swears by Nike and UA. so that's why i thought UA was still pretty popular. A lot of pro players usually on the football side i thought like UA's stuff too.

Perhaps the new staff will have better tastes when it comes to the alts. If they present 3 fugly unis, then just say nope and move on.

I don't know if nike would do any better for Alt uni's, if it's all about the advertising brand on our gear I'd prefer Adidas went back to the retro logo
