Nice pups fellas. My lab is turning 3 in a month and hitting his stride. We worked the roosters over pretty good last year, and can't wait till the fall. With elk not openeing till sept 12th, i'll have a weekend to take him grouse hunting.

Post a pic for us Bmurph~

Here's my guy....still growing at 5 1/2 months. Introduced him to a pigeon in a cage yesterday and he went simply apeshit over it.

Is he a pointer or a flusher?

Any thoughts on Weimaraners for hunting? A friend just got one flown in from a out of state breeder. 12 weeks old. I thought about getting one but my vet doesn't like them.

Weimaraners are beautiful dogs, Ive always thought I would like to have one. I don't know anyone that has one, and I have never hunted over any. I don't know much about them other than they have webbed feet I believe, so they have been used for both upland birds as well as waterfowl as far as I know. Don't know much about their mental makeup or their performance in the field. Weims and Vizsla's have always intrigued me as far as a purchase one day however. Let us know how your friends pup works out

I will. He had the dog shipped to CA from an out-of-state breeder. I can only imagine how much it was. The dog is going to a pro trainer nearby. My lab is getting too old for upland hunting now. I have never tried using a pointing dog for pheasants before. It would be interesting to try one. I hunt wild pheasants in a large area and those birds, unlike the planted ones, run like hell so it will be interesting to see how a pointer works.

Are you from Texas? Have you ever heard of Briley's? I am thinking of contacting them about having choke tubes installed in my gun.

I have Pointers and my brother has Labs. We hunt big country here in Texas for Pheasant and Quail. We have had great luck hunting the labs behind the Pointers. Point, flush, retrieve, use each dogs strong points. We have Blue Quail that run as hard as any Pheasant and the Pointers handle them very well.
I have hunted behing Weimaraners and if they come from hunting stock they are very nice.

They're beautiful dogs, but entirely useless as hunting dogs.

Yes sir, I am from Texas and I have heard of Briley's. Hear they make some real fine choke tubes. I don't have any currently installed but have some hunting buddies that swear by em.

I think generally the shipping fees charged by most breeders to ship a pup in the US is around 4-5 hundred bucks. I have a good friend that just had a braque du bourbonnais shipped to him and he paid $1200 for the pup and $500 to have it sent from up north to Texas

In your opinion, why are they not good hunting dogs?

My experience with them is they do not have the drive the other breeds do. They are extremely stubborn, and they're also big babies. That's not a good combo for training. I've never been impressed by one.
