I really like all three pitching matchups in this series for the Bucs. But we need to play better on the road than we did last season, and this is a good place to start.

Ace-like outing for Cole, who's off to a good start. And another comfortable save for Melancon, despite the lack of velocity. That's good. Nice start to the road trip.

Pity they're out here so early. I won't get a chance to go to any of the games this weekend. :tsk:

It is good to see us with a winning record in April, but they have got to do something with Cutch. He is currently a non-factor in the sense that we could probably get similar production out of Gorkys Hernandez. The problem is that right now, we really don't need him, but I fear that he is doing more and more damage to his knee and when we do need him, he won't be available.

Other than that, and the almost complete lack of offense overall, I am pretty happy.

I think it would be in their best interest to sit him for a bit. Polanco and Marte have been delivering when needed, and Lambo hasn't gotten results, but his at bats have been very good, and he's hit the ball hard early in the season. Rodriguez has also been solid in the outfield. Give Cutch a week or two, let him get healthy, and have him return when he's healthy enough to be the impact player he is.

Having him not hitting, playing hurt, right in the middle of the order is killing the offense. Walker also hasn't gotten going yet, really, and those two are in very important spots.

Also, early indications are that we got the good AJ. He has been stingy so far. Ground balls are back up, walks are back down. His Ks are down, too, right now, and he's stranding runners at an absurd rate, so he's not going to pitch to a sub-2 ERA on the season, I'm sure, but he looks more like the pitcher we had in 2013 than the one the Phillies had last year.

Neither Liriano nor Hellickson with anything resembling control or efficiency, but they've both been reasonably effective in terms of stopping runs anyway. Both are getting lots of whiffs with their offspeed offerings.

Liriano's been slightly better so far, though, and the Bucs are up 2-0 on Pedro's 2-RBI single in the first.
