Well it was a nice run while it lasted.

I have not seen a basketball a$$ kicking like that in a long time...Kentucky did everything better in that game except foul better.

WVU was horrible:

24% from field
57% from line
13% from 3pt land

I do not care if your playing Kentucky or South Dakota St you lose with those kind of numbers.

Gary Brown 1 pt, your senior has one f%cking point. They almost outscored us in free throws alone.

Higgs did a hell of a job this year getting this team back to its winning ways, but he has to fix some major issues....number one in my opinion is free throw shooting. They are free shots at basket make them.

Also Macon, Billy Dee, or Holton have to develop big time this offseason, Williams cannot do it alone on the inside.

Hats off to Huggs for a pretty good season, hope with all the young talent he can get this team back over the next couple of years.

Pretty ironic, all week I had questioned the mental toughness of UK.

But, it was the mental weakness of WVU that was most obvious last night. WVU played scared. There were few moments in the game when they played with the tenacity and aggressiveness that helped them win 25 games this year.

Kids today have forgotten the mid-range jumper. It is either take it to the rim, or take a 3. No one practices the mid-range anymore.

UK was giving up shots at the elbow… in the 15-19 foot range all night, and our guys weren't even looking to score from there. Instead, they'd take it to the paint where the UK size was waiting.

WVU played a terrible game against a great team. It was an embarrassing loss, but it was a great season…

What a total embarrassment. Huggy had a good season and attempted to mask a couple of major weaknesses - poor shooting from the field and poor free throw shooting. I guess when you can't make free throws, you shouldn't be expected to hit anything beyond 10 feet. At one point, we were 5 for 38 for the game and at the 12+ minute mark in the second half, we only scored 1 point. Some halftime adjustments there, but when you coach one style of basketball because you have a team who could not shoot.

Before somebody says "the refs took us out of the game", BULLSHIT! The refs called a tight game on both sides to the point Kentucky fans were frustrated and booing the refs. The difference, KY was able to adapt their play. Last night clearly demonstrated the difference between a 5 star player and 2 & 3 star players. Kentucky kicked our ass in all phases of the game from coaching all the way down to the ball boy. But this will be alright with many WVU fans because Huggy played here, took us to the Big Dance 6 out of his 8 seasons here, and is a potential Hall of Famer whose body of work was not created here. This team was uninspired and their effort sucked. Where was the fire and grittiness?

Hats off to Kentucky. Although I hoped that WVU could win the game, similar to 2010 when Kentucky got out of the gate late and we were able to hold them off to win the game. but in reality, I gave them a puncher's chance of winning. I had WVU losing to KY and KY winning it all in my brackets, so I'm was not shocked at the loss, but I am embarrassed at the effort and final score. I'm still a fan of Andy O'Toole, coach of Robert Morris. He lost to duke by only 29, but his team cut it to 10 during the 2nd half before Duke went on another run.

:sneeze:Well...just my two cents....Kentucky by a country ass mile had better talent...andunfortuntaley for the Mountaineers they clicked on all cylinders...I don't think Wv was mentally week...they just didn't have the inside presence to play with that team...and when you force Wv to look to the perimeter for scoring..well....that is their biggest weakness..no consistency for the 2 and 3..

I didn't watch the second half, that game started waaaaay to late for me, but one half was plenty...

??.....Means that can't shoot!!.......they have been inconsistent all year!..now when they have a 6 foot 6+ tower in front of the them to shoot over..well...thats not going to make things better!...LOL!

This team all year was one of the worst shooting teams in the country...this wasn't a one fluke off shooting night..

I will give you that it was no fluke they shot bad, but they have not shot this bad all season. They had some mental issues as well out there missing some shots that were gimmes.

The defensive effort was really poor as well, there is where I think you will find a lot of the mental mistakes.

Both of them had been shooting the ball well.

Look at Daxter's game log…

I think that after the 2 early fouls on Williams this team gave up. They looked scared from the start. We dribbled in the paint, but did not challenge the big guys. They needed to get in the lane and create contact but did not. Shooting was horrendous. Kentucky may have played their best game of the year and we played our worst. I think Cal had them extra motivated because of the 2010 loss to us. Daxter must have pissed them off a little bit too as they made sure he ended up with an egg on the scoreboard.

Embarrassing, yes! Unexpected, no! As I have said all year, this team does not have great athletes, or shooters. They have made it this far because of tenacity, offensive rebounds, and steals. Note that we did beat them in offensive rebounds. Of course that means little as they less opportunity with all the dunks and open shots. Huggs did a great job of taking this group to the sweet 16.

We looked like a Jr. High team playing a High school team, or a college team playing an NBA team.

As for the college game in general, except for following WVU, it does not really appeal to me. Fouls break up the pace and often decide games. Free throws are boring to me. Officiating is very inconsistent throughout the season and in the tourney.

AT least now we can go back to talking Football.

No doubt, DC. I'm not calling for Huggy's head...well maybe a little. I just felt that he may have thrown his hands up a little during the game. He is a potential Hall of Famer, where were the changes made during half? What type of plan (almost funny typing) did Huggy have? Staying the course did not work, what was another option? I can probably answer my own question, none. Maybe Huggy didn't have an answer for Kentucky's talent.

Another is correct, the loss was not unexpected. The way they played and the final score was, at least for me. I'd hate to see what posters would have to write if this was Dana and not Huggy. Shouldn't we hold both coaches to a standard for our 2 major money revenue generating sports? That's right, it's the Rifle Team. Maybe both can learn something from the tradition of winning that program brings to WVU.

Oh they challenged...but it was an effort in futility....they were out sized!...outmatched underneath the basket!

All of the things I said WV needed to do to have a chance.... shoot well, rebound, hit a few and 3's and drop their free throws, they didn't do. I didn't expect them to win - but I didn't expect them to lose in historic fashion.
A horrible end to a very entertaining season. I loved watching this team (most of the time) and they
showed so MUCH heart compared to last season.

Many thanks to the team and the coach. For next season - someone needs to find their offense.

Wasn't surprised, we got our arses handed to us earlier this year by far worse teams than UK is this year. Looking forward, I think we can be really good if a few things develop in the offseason . I dunno if I could say that with a strait face the last few years.

Well offense will be coming next year with the leading JUCO scorer in the nation signed. I couldn't understand why we would continuously set up in a half court set last night to get smothered? When they pressed us, I would have made it a track meet. Might have lost by 60pts but I would have pushed that ball for better shots than the bullshit we got last night in the half court possessions. Why not turn G Brown and Staton loose on the fastbreak? You had 10 times the opportunity to score in that fashion than the half court set. It may have not made a difference or made it worse but i'll be damned if I burn 30 seconds off the clock down by 25-30 points.

Perhaps because they can't hit that shot with consistency. This WVU team was one of the worst shooting teams in basketball. They lived all year on steals and layups. You are not going to suddenly win with mid range jumpers. If they only shoot 50% from the line why would you think they're going to hit field goals from that range?

The shooting, both from the line and field is the area of most need.

I agree Mac… it is hard to hit a shot consistently when you don't practice the shot to begin with. That was my point…

Coaches know the scouting reports. Coaches know the shot selection of players and teams. As a result, defenses and defenders have evolved into what we find today. Hedge on screens, pack the lane with offside help… or zone up.

FT shooting and jump shots are not analogous. And, I totally agree with you… the kids need to put in a lot of time in the gym to work on both.

It made a huge difference in Wanny's game between his sophomore and junior seasons.
