James Farrow, the DB from Minnesota committed to VT today per The Roanoke Times. He was the kid that averaged like 40 yards per kick return last year. Was originally a Minnesota commit.

I am a little bit hesitant on this one. He ws a "solid verbal" to Minnesota back in March and made this statement:
"It's James Junior year in High School and this is a verbal commitment. "As a Junior it's just a verbal commit, but for me it's just as good as signing my signature. I'm not going to back down on my commitment... I'll sign on national signing day." His dream school is, apparently, Wisconsin so until Wisconsin offers him and he sticks with us, or national signing day rolls around, I am not going to get too excited. I am not saying that I am not thrilled to have him, and I totally understand a kid changing his mind about where he will be spending the next 4-5 years of his life. If he ended up at Wisconsin, I would hope the best for him. I am just saying that I am hesitant about being too excited.

Has this kid been big on the Hokie's recruiting radar? Seems like its an out of the blue commit from my vantage point (not big into recruiting). 40 yards per kick return sounds fun though.

My concern is that the reason he doesn't have a Wisconsin offer is due to his poor grades. So with our limited scholarships, I'd be wary of offering for someone who may not qualify. But I guess the coaches feel good enough about the commitment to take the kid and that's good enough for me.

I read a while back that he originally committed to Minnesota, then started having second thoughts. He sent his film to a handful of schools he was interested in — VT and WVU were two, there were others, but I can’t remember who they were. I know we and WVU made offers based off his film, which according to some was very impressive.
The only thing is I’m not sure of the level of competition he faced off against in Minnesota. Still, from what I understand the kid is a hard hitter and has mad return skills. Even heard some talk of comparisons to Macho. Hope we can keep him in the fold. Not really sure what his verbal means as far as other CBs were are recruiting like Nicholson. |
