Default IL is broke. Teachers still want 30% raise.

Kinda' like the UAW as GM went bankrupt. These fuckers are either too stupid to know what's going on or they just don't care if the entire system finally collapses.
Fuck 'em. Let them all dig ditches and privatize the entire system I say!

I've yet to meet anyone that didn't want a raise or thought they were underpaid. As you know this is just a "high" bargaining percentage and I'm sure they will settle for a lot less.

The difference is, most of those people don't get their summers off, don't get 2 weeks off for XMAs and other holidays, and get to leave work everyday at 2:45. They have it sooooo tough......... all of that and salaries between $50-100K........

Privatization doesnt save squat. it does reduce quality of service.
Unions are not the reasons governments are broke. In fact unions are keeping the middle class alive, which in turn helps the economy. You want to fix the problem you reduce corporate tax cuts.

The attack on unions is getting old. Eventually the tide will change, attacking the working class and front line workers will only go to far.

Man, I almost threw up reading that crap.

Privatization reduces quality? I guess from a 30,000 foot view one MIGHT be able to construe that but it would take a slighted eye. Tell me how much quality has been reduced in the airline industry by privatizing it? Sure, you don't have people wearing suits and getting 3 course meals anymore, but it doesn't cost you $1k for a 2 hour flight, you have more service than you did before, and there is incentive to make the customer happy.

Next, unions are keeping the middle class alive? Cite it. I don't believe that for a second. I'd venture a guess that a tiny, TINY percentage of the middle class is a member of a union.

Finally there is no silver bullet to the economical woes. cutting corp taxes, cutting corp tax breaks, increasing taxes, cutting personal taxes...no single action is going to fix everything. It will take a little from everyone to get the ball rolling again.

Privatization cost the same buddy. You pay the workers less nut the profit margin makes up the difference.
Unions keep the middle class alive by paying a living wage, which in turn gives these people to chance to shop locally at resturaunts etc which fuels those buisness owners in the middle class as well.
You say there is no silver bullet to curing the woes, yet some belive cutting union jobs is that bullet.

You have a skewed and incorrect view if you think there is a correlation between the two. The economy got worse as the Texas Rangers got better...guess they are to blame as well?

Unions do nothing but make a few union bosses rich. This isn't the 1800's, unions have zero place in America today. Unions are responsible for the airlines troubles, the autoworkers troubles, and pretty much every other heavily unionized company...USPS anyone? You can be piss poor at your job, but because you are union you can't be fired, and since you are employed another year here is a raise. Total bullshit. The only people that like unions are the lazy asses that benefit from raises and promotions despite a lack of effort. Don't preach to me "buddy". I worked a job that was union. I saw the people that had been there 10+ years and their attitude of "don't work so hard you make the rest of us look bad". They knew that they could work less hard than I did and still get the same raise at the next contracted bench point. So again, take your "buddy" pro-union attitude and shove it where the sun don't shine. Not much gets me worked up on these boards, but when I have someone sitting here telling me that attacking unions is the reason we are in this, well that crap doesn't fly. Unions are outdated and serve no purpose.

Your comparision has ZERO to do with the actual topic.

Since unions have been reduced the economy has taken a dive, is that the only reason? No, but it is one of the reasons.

Again unions are the only people fighting to keep workers heads above water.

LMFAO at your anti union rant.
Unions are needed more and more nowadays as the attack on the working class gets worse. Your just an angry man who either is jealous you couldnt get a good union job, or have drank the kool aid that unions are not needed while profits soar for everyone but the workers

Unions are only fighting to keep SOME peoples heads above water. Those heads are their own...and those people are the union bosses that only want to protect their union people so that they can continue to sit in negotiation meetings and draw a portion of the union member checks. Then in the end the union negotiators will sign some deal and shove it down your throat as "this is the best we can do".

and my comparison has the same to do with the topic as yours. The breaking of unions is not hurting the economy, it is helping it. By busting down the wages companies can become profitable. Profitable means hiring more.

I quit my union job, so definitely not jealous. I now make 3x what I did and love it. Trust me, there is no love for unions here and most of working america can't stand you leeches either. Wisconsin was just a start. The days of unions are over, and unions will continue to get busted down.
