Default Speaking of Canada...

They have begun construction on their oil pipeline, and are investigating/planning a western route for export to Asia.

There is a growing desire in Canada to go with Asia over the US because of the delays and lack of cooperation with the US gov't.

The developers of the pipeline say that they will reapply for US permits, but how long will they wait?

Looking at the number of current pipelines in the US and Canada, can anyone seriously say this bullshit isn't just librul greeny weenie posturing and politics? It's absolutely absurd and Obama should be charged with treason.

I've always agreed with this. Not only would it put americans to work, it would help the economy and we wouldn't be so dependent on other countries for oil.

I will admit in fact, the world oil shortage is political, not geological. So its always going to touchy subject for some.

Even the artic wildlife refuge agrees anwr should be open.

I think Obama is handling this all wrong. I understand the environmental concerns, but why not offer a provisional permit, even it has no legal backing it could be a gesture of good will towards the plan. Instead of just saying no, maybe later.

Does anyone actually think that we will not be able to find a route for the pipeline?

If we showed a little good faith, they could continue construction of the pipeline in our direction (instead of heading West to Asia) and have an approved path long before the pipeline got near the US border.

No...I think he means a map showing how many pipelines currently cross the Sand Hills region and Ogallala Aquifer that supplies drinking water.

Juice was trying to imply that one more pipe is no big deal. That's true, to an extent, but the real issue was the original route and uniqueness of the area it traversed.

What prevented the new route from getting approval was time - it was only suggested back in November. The original route was ~3 years old, had been studied and debated, and, in fact, had been WALKED OFF the entire way. Forcing a decision in 3 months led to the only logical conclusion - it couldn't be approved because adequate analysis was not completed.

Just this once, let's try & have an actual conversation about the topic, instead of pulling pigtails and telling "yo mama" jokes.

Yeah, we have to continue the push for offshore drilling because it is safer for the environment. Just look at the track record.

Pipes underground connected to a network of values close to those who work on them or pipes diving miles below the ocean through the floor where no one seems to be able to reach them in a timely manner.

I don't know the exact location of this aquifer but judging by that map, I would think that there are already pipeline that tranverse it. But I don't know.

At any rate, Obama has shown no support for the plan. As I stated earlier, a suitable path can be found, but without a hint of support, Canada will go to Asia with it.

The map is somewhat misleading by coloring natural gas and crude slightly different shades of red. The big empty area in Nebraska is, I believe, the Sand Hills region that the state government of Nebraska wanted avoided.

Let's talk about how "environmentally friendly" it is to have ALL that oil from Bakken trucked or trained to the refineries. How many tons of filth goes into the air from that transportation versus a pipeline?

Let's talk about the money flowing to the ME and Chavez while we diddle ourselves.

Let's talk about the oil being shipped up from Brazil from the pumping rigs that WERE once right here in our own Gulf. Think of the potential for pollution from spills and the energy wasted.

I could go on...but you get it. "Green" policy is just a code word for "cough up some more political donations or you get squat."

Do you even know what treason is???? Obama refused to allow something to occur that he had a legal right to turn down. Although I don't agree with it, he broke no laws.

to this thread

1) The republicans added a Feb deadline to have the XL pipeline approved to an unemployment bill last November. (Knowing very well that it couldn't be because of Nebraska).

2) In January, the Republican governor of Nebraska asked Obama to kill it.

3) obama in all his stupidity killed it.

4) John Boehner is now trying to revitalize it in Congress.

Republicans did make Obama look like an ass on this one....
