Default As the economy improves, on what theme will the R candidate run?

When economy is bad the decision is easy - it's the economy, stupid.
As things improve, though, that decision becomes harder.

Will it be a counter-factual (things could have recovered faster?)
Reignite the culture war (birth control, gay marriage?)
Solely focus on healtcare reform?
The Bush tax cuts (again) set to expire at the end of the year?

That's not the issue. The economy is starting to get better. Numbers back that up. Republicans won't be able to use the fixing the economy bit in their election campaigns if it's not in the crapper. So the question is what issue will be the backbone of their campaigns?

None of the economist's are confident about the economy. I don't know how you can say the economy is starting to get better. The GOP will still be able to attack obama on the economy months from now. They can talk about Solyndra, caving to environmetalist's instead of creating thousands of jobs, Fast and Furious, the disaster called obamacare, etc. etc. It's a good thing obama has a lot of money from his campaign donations. He will need it to explain away his record. Although he will probably just use it to attack the challenger.

No they don't. Democrats keep bragging about the fact that 243,000 jobs were added in January. That sounds great until you realize that 300,000 people enter the workforce every month. We are stilll having more people out of work every single month. The unemployment rate is going down, but that is only because people have given up looking for work. Eventually, those people will start looking for jobs again, and then the unemployment rate will rise. Obama will have a tough time selling the economy getting better at 10% unemployment.

This economey is still on the edge it could go either way and untill the job market gets better and I'm talking 800,000+ new jobs a month for 6 contine months this economey is not better. Untill Obama can somehow get the GOP and the Dems to work together to cut spending drop the deficit then Obama is no leader and a failure of a president.

So far he done nothing to change my mind he can do either. I will vote for alternative.

Which citations? Go to BLS.gov and the numbers are right on the front page. As for the 300,000 per month figure, i'll give you a source that I know you'll like. Are there any other links you want?

It could go either way but right now the trend is clearly up and that is despite housing (which is NEVER going to be like it was 5-10 years ago.) Overall, that's a good thing. As more people start to realize that trend and think we are getting back on track, I think attacking on the economy will look bad.

Vote for whoever you want, as long as you understand that NO alternative is going to do these things:
6 continuous months of > 800k new jobs
Significantly cut spending (i.e. reduce below current level vs. cut spending growth)

Would things shift toward Santorum and make it a culture war like that??

I hope not, but if Santorum were the nominee, I'm afraid that would be fore-front issues.

Problem is numbers are easily manipulated. There are several factors that say otherwise.
