Default Big Government in Action.....

School Lunch Guidelines: Preschooler Told Homemade Turkey Sandwich Not Nutritious Enough, Given Nuggets Instead

The turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice, according to the Carolina Journal, didn't meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines. The agent was inspecting the entire class' lunch boxes that day.

I can't imagine what kind "chicken" those nuggets really are.

What a trip. The Fes are bustling at the seems with assholes looking for a way to utilize their ridiculous power. It's the 17,000 new IRS agents I worry about...hope they're lazy.

School provided lunch can and should meet certain nutritional requirements. Jamie Oliver is right that what we currently provide is crap. We should also reintroduce home economics so kids get atleast some basic education on how to survive without fast food joints.

Inspecting and taking away (I think they actually supplemented the lunch but still in a fucked up manner...) a lunch brought from home is screwed up. I'd be pissed if the school tried to make my kid eat something else when I provided a lunch.

When did they get the authority to do that?

Talk to North Carolina:
http://ncchildcare.dhhs.state.nc.us/...enter_chp9.pdf

Quote:
CHILD CARE RULE .0901
Food From Home
When children bring their own food for meals or snacks to the center, if the food does not meet the nutritional requirements outlined in the Meal Patterns for Children in Child Care, the center must provide additional food necessary to meet those requirements.
I should be clear. I think that providing additional food if the meal from home is crap actually is okay but it clearly indicates there is an issue that needs to confronted.

If we want kids to eat healthily, the last thing we should do is convince them that the shit in most lunchrooms is what healthy food tastes like. I absolutely love fruits and veggies, but the things that they served in my elementary and middle schools were absolutely nasty. If my only experience with veggies growing up had been Canned grean beans, peaches, processed iceberg lettuce, etc., I probably would be eating a lot more hamburgers and mac and cheese.

For the record, though, the health of citizens is one of the areas with the most compelling state interests. This was poorly intentioned, but government should absolutely be trying to find a way to get people to eat healthier.

Which is what I said: we currently provide crap. Part of the problem is that any effort to improve the situation is met with derision and ridicule (e.g. initial complains about Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution efforts or Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" and healthy food efforts.)

This does seem odd. At the school I worked, a middle school, some of the students lunches consisted of 5 orders of fries and a coke. It was also common when pizza was on the menu to order fries and put them on top of the pizza.

The school ordered a case of fish once a month. A case contains 24 pieces. It took a month to sell all 24 with more than half being purchased by the teachers.

They confiscated another lunch! North Carolina Mother Diane Zambrano Says Her Daughter‘s Homemade School Lunch Wasn’t Healthy Enough | West Hoke Elementary | TheBlaze.com

Ya know, people are pussies. You'd think a few parents would make a few phone calls and the these "food police" might regain conciousness one night on the ground next to their car and a tire iron.

I shall LOL when they confiscate some kid's lunch who has some allergies or something and the kid gets ill from the school lunch. Then, the taxpayers get to pay for the 10 million dollar court settlement. Of course, we deserve it for letting our own government kick us around like this.
