Pretty sure their just filing for reorganization. Besides, Hostess is not vital to the country, nor are they too big to fail.

Wait, I am confused....so you don't believe in capitalism? If Hostess has a crappy product and people stopped buying it, should they change their method or just be allowed to go under. But aren't politicians always talking about preserving jobs? Why are some jobs okay and some not? So small businesses can go down because they don't have the strong lobbyiest and the giant corporations get taken care of.

I'm a very strong believer in capitalism. I don't know what I said that would convince you otherwise.

Yes Hostess should be allowed to go under or file bankruptcy for reorganization. It's not a question of some jobs. It's a question of corporations that are so large, and employ so many people that their bankruptcy would be harmful for the country.

GM is not a joke. Our automotive industry failed to keep up with changing times. If the big 3 had gone bankrupt, the economy would suffer the damaging multiplier effect since the automotive industry suppliers would also have suffered and many would have gone into bankruptcy.

Unemployment would have increased 1-2% and the recession might have become a depression. Hostess is not in that category.

Those 1 to 2% need to get a job with a company that doesn't need tax dollars to survive. LOL @ anyone who thinks taking money from profitable companies (taxes) and giving it to perennial losers is good for anything.

GM is hardly a "perennial loser." They made a profit the last 2 years and did so for most of their history. We cannot afford to risk a depression for some idiot's ideology.

No confusion at all. I answered the question of why Hostess should be allowed to go under, if necessary, and why it was vital for GM to survive. Nothing is absolute. There are times when the marketplace needs a boost from another source, in this case the Fed Govt.

I wasn't in the market for a vehicle when GM was on the brink, so I really couldn't help.

But Twinkies...those I can buy. If we all bought some, there'd be no need for a bailout OR a bankruptcy filing. So instead of arguing on here, we should all just pick up some snack cakes. And hey, if they're not your cup of tea, just hand 'em out to the school-age kids in your neighborhood. Their teachers will no doubt thank you for energizing the little tykes.
