That is so fucking retarded.

At least I can gauge the intelligence level of my friends on facebook with this. I haven't seen it, so no one has been this stupid yet. If someone does, I know they are too stupid to be friends with anymore and can drop them.

It should be legal, but that's some dumb shit.

Like Bill Hicks says, if you're at a sporting event and you see some asshole yelling, swearing, and trying to start a fight is he a drunk or on pot? Exactly.

1. True as far as actual chemical addiction

2. Cannabis is actually a mild hallucinogenic, not an anti-depressant

3. iffy, Cannabis can treat cancer symptoms but can also cause cancer

4. zero may be an exaggeration, but the premise of this point is absolutely correct

5. I don't know what the point of that one is. I guess if pot was legal, it would save some money on investigating and prosecuting, but it would also cost more because it would be treated like alcohol, DUI etc...

6. True

7. False

Also a better comparison, in my mind woul d be to look at THC versus opiates for long term pain treatment...that is a serious selling point for legalization of marijuana.

My wife receives this periodical from the Journal of American Medical Assoc, otherwise known as JAMA. They recently completed a study that took twenty years of compiling data about the health risks of smoking pot.

Here is a synopsis of their findings published in the Daily Collegian:
The Daily Collegian

It is an interesting read.

Quote:
According to Craker, marijuana has been prohibited primarily because hemp was overtaking wood as a better fiber for paper production during the early 1900s. Because businessmen, such as publisher William Randolph Hearst, relied on their timber lands and did not want any competition, they insisted that “marijuana is the worst thing in the world.”

JAMA is a bit of a "look at me" journal in the business, but I saw that study and found the findings very intriguing. I would like to see a long term cohort study done looking at other outcomes like naso-pharyngeal cancer, lung cancer, infection rates and stuff.

As far as psychoses, they are there but not any worse than those from constant use of opioid painkillers, and marijuana can not lead to an accidental overdose with a couple of drinks.

It is a debate that needs to happen and be taken seriously.

My concern is saying it "cures" cancer. That might be the dumbest thing I have ever heard ever ever. Yes it can temporarily suppress side effects of chemotherapy, but it doesn't cure anything.

The creator of this can make 1,000 other valid points after that one and I still won't care.

To say it would save taxpayer dolars via police, very wrong. It would be treated as alcohol an prosecuted the same way. wash

Grows brain cells? Yea all those people I have been acquainted with who now sit at home, play video games, work for minimum wage at the grocery store, and bitch about the government obviously have the biggest brain cells out there.

Zero deaths in history? Do they really want to play that card. Technically AIDS doesn't kill people either. People pass away from complications due to AIDS destroying your immune system. People are killed by the chemicals in marijuana but I'm pretty sure people have done stupid shit resulting in death as a result of taking the drug.

Not addictive. Fine they can have that one. Technically it isn't addictive like other drugs. But try and tell me the daily smoker will have an easy time just stopping and getting on with their lives.

The debate should happen but stuff like this makes it seem like a joke.

I have a lifelong friend who was born with what can generically be called club foot, although both of his feet are actually rotated outward, instead of inward. The daily pain he suffers through would make most others, myself included, weep in agony.

He has undergone surgeries throughout his life, but ultimately, there is nothing that can be done to ever fully correct it. His doctors have all prescribed him with the typical painkillers, and in some cases localized injections, when the pain is too great, but what gives him the greatest comfort and therapy is marijuana. He would rather use that than taking opiates that are synthetic in nature, and highly addicting. I can't blame him.

A lot of good points made here. 46&2 is pretty much spot on in post #6. In my opinion, Alcohol is the worse of the 2. Many years ago, my friend was debating with his parents and his final point was "man made alcohol, god made pot, who do you trust?" I thought that was a great point, lol. One thing I've seen in my 50+ years of living is when someone drinks too much they can get aggressive and more (see post #5), when someone smokes too much pot, they eat you out of house and home. The bottom line is abuse by either is a bad thing.

That's kind of an aside from my point. It can be used for great things when prescribed for the right purposes. Medicinal marijuana is without a doubt a great thing.

The argument here was it cures cancer. Just like it won't cure that particular disease, but it can be used to make life livable for many. That is absolutely an appropriate reason to use it.

Yea but that's like saying McDonalds was made by God. He made the chickens, but they even got lost n the McNuggets somewhere along the line with all of the artificial preservatives and additives.

Just like Weed doesn't naturally grow in your back yard (at least for most of it). it is planted and artificially enhanced.

Those are some naive exaggerations there!

Though when you step back and think about it, alcohol is a pretty a dangerous drug. But you saw what happened during prohibition. We're just way too attached.

I think the more interesting 'poster' is weed vs cigarettes. That's a debate I've gotten into some times.

I disagree with it not being labeled addictive. Maybe there isn't a chemical that causes addiction in the drug, but I know plenty of people who refuse to stop, regardless of the consequences. I've seen it ruin just as many lives as alcohol. Sure, it makes you happy/carefree...but that done in excess equals a lazy ass who doesn't do things their responsible for (like going to work), thus ending up in debt, stealing from their family, and compulsively lying. If this shit was legal my brother would be in a freaking ditch.
