Most likely coming up there for a long weekend Feb 18-20

Anything going on we should know about?
Any events happening?

Used to live there, so been there done that 1000 times over - no touristy things will be done, except maybe some museums and the MLK memorial I haven't seen yet.
Looking for events, festivals, anything along those lines?

Friggin Caps on road trip that weekend for Disney on Ice... Wife already saw that, <sigh> probably taking lil Biz. Yuck.

National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

I'll be back there in March, plan to go then.

I always enjoy Old Town Alexandria, with 43 ka-jillion other people.

That's actually one place I never went to, never got out Dulles way, and always flew out of National (Reagan).
Been to Air + Space a thousand times, but never out there.

We're driving up, so it may actually be on the itinerary.
The boy loves planes.

Edit: opened in 2003, that would explain why I never went. It didn't exist when i lived up there.

We'll probably take him to the zoo, gotta see the Pandas.
If given a choice between Disney on ice or the zoo.. Pandas win every time.

Dulles is typical heavy suburb, but I actually had a rather good time last time I was out there for training. No shortage of places to eat, and as long as you're not trying to drive anywhere between 4 and 6, you're okay.

I used to think the Nat Zoo was the best I'd ever been to, but Jungle Jack Hannah has built quite the collection out here. If you feel museum-ey, the coolest one I have ever been to is the Spy museum.

The Natural History museum has been completely revamped and is damn cool. I am a science nerd though. In addition the National Museum of Art has fantastic collections of impressionist works and the master's works if you are into that.

been back up recently and did the Smithsonian rounds, Nat history, A+S, Nat Archives, etc. Love them all.

Though the Mrs. Bizzle would really love it, we are bringing a 4 yr old, and a 4 yr old in an Art museum is a exercise in frustration for sure.

Will be at the Hyatt on NJ ave just north of the capital bldg, so anything reachable by metro preferred

Biz, I highly recommend this museum if you are an aviation buff. They have some extremely rare planes in there.

just a few off the top of my head:

- 'Enola Gay' B-29 (bombed Hiroshima)
- SR-71 Blackbird
- P-38 Lightning
- German Komet (first rocket propelled aircraft)
- Spaceshuttle Enterprise (the prototype for the other spaceshuttles, if you've never seen a shuttle closeup, this will blow your mind! It's huge!!)
- F4U Corsair
- many other rare Japanese and German planes of WWII
- Rare WWI aircraft (amazing collection on both sides)
- P-61 Black Widow (early night-fighting aircraft of the 1940's)

It's just an amazing collection. I highly recommend!!

Tis the tentative plan for Sunday morning for now. Looks pretty cool. Wife if a WWII buff, so Enola Gay being there is awesome.

I would highly recommend checking out Eastern Market

oh and the POS metro is closed on the orange from Rosslyn to Virginia Square this weekend if you're checking out NoVa

Eastern Market

Eastern Market is a stop on the Orange and Blue lines so it's easy to get to also
