In the NFL they could call holdiing on EVERY play. Guys can get back at one another on the next play if they choose. Players get knocked out of games all the time.

In the NHL a player knows if he does something the other team doesn't approve of he knows a fight is coming. If not in that game, the next.

The main reason why the Isles vs Penguins game got out of hand was because the Isles didn't like what Talbot did to Comeau in their previous meeting. They wanted to make sure Talbot & the rest of the Penguins knew this. Players must be able to stick up for one another on the ice. If fighting is taken out of the sport cheapshot artists will rule the game.

Lol. I take your point, but we're not arguing the level of sacrifice/violence that requires change, but the change itself. So what you are saying is... we need a fight to end fighting!

So wait... something awful has already happened in your scenario. The threat of violence did not stop it. And now something awful will happen later on top of it. So the violence begets more violence. So how is that an effective system exactly? Especially when players have shown time and again they will rise to that level of violence for very legitimate, purposeful hockey plays within the rules.

As for the OP, I like the Wings fighting. It usually means we just laid a clean open ice hit, had to drop the gloves against somebody else, and then we go on a powerplay. "...and then they feel shame."

It's a fine line when playing the Wings - You need to be skating hard and applying pressure on their defense, but you need to be smart about it, or else you'll wind up in the sinbin. The Wings don't take retaliatory penalties, so trying to goad them into that kids of game doesn't work.

The Ducks are a good example over the last 5 years or so. We just kind of decided to figh back and play with whatever was left. They found out we have more depth.

The problem with playing the Ducks is even if you win the series they make it extremely hard on their opponent. Fortunately for the playoff teams in the West it looks like the Ducks are toast this year.

When I see a fight, I usually just stand there and shake my head. It's mindless and senseless.

It doesn't work to keep players honest because not everyone has to fight and own up to their own cheap shots. You can try to force them, but they never have to drop the gloves. And if you do that, you just earned your team some time shorthanded.

The suspensions aren't working either because they're way too short. I'd like to see a flat system like 10 games first offense, 25 for second, 50 for third, season for fourth, lifetime ban for fifth. Make the penalties worth the players' while. That's also a quick way to get cheap players out of the league.

My uncle did the same thing. Turns out he had Parkinson's.

A slightly more traditional fight broke out after the initial stick swinging, and I'm sure suspensions will follow.

Also, Miami got trampled by the Pwny Express. Glendenning was a rough customer, Chris Brown the Wolverine beat that goalie like Chris Brown the pussy beats R&B singers, and Shawn Hunwick is a magical midget.
