Default What do you hate more; BCS Computors or Voters

The BCS Computors use a secret formula, therefor I do not trust them.

Some Voters shouldn't be allowed to vote (coaches) and others vote for what's best for their favorite team instead of what's right.

Tough call....actually I'd go with computers because their lack of compassion. It seems that it is better to lose earlier in the season than later. In addition to using strength of schedule. It's easy to blame the computers if you don't like the outcome, but I get even more frustrated with coaches/voters giving odd votes.

I hate people who misspell computers...twice.

But I distrust the voters. They have an agenda, not the computers.

Even if you knew the algorithms the computers used could you understand it? For example I have a computer ranking program that uses the Draper-Smith stepwise procedure to calculate 3 models, offense, defense and special teams. The results of each model are then weighted according to the percentage of each category from the total plays. Finally the rankings are adjusted using SOS calculated by the NCAA formula. But unless you really understand multiple regression analysis you would probably think the results are biased but in fact cannot be just because of the method used.

This.

Regular people(like me) wouldn't even know what they were looking at, but it would be better if the method was open so math peeps outside of the BCS can double check it.

Computers aren't biased. They simply do what they are programmed to do. THAT can be fixed.

Voters have a bias. That cannot be fixed. People have agendas. ANYTIME - I don't care what you're voting on - when you have that many people involved, stupidity and fuckery in the results goes up exponentially.

Take away the human component, and you'll get better results IMO. Look at voters like Paul Finebaum. He didn't even put RG3 on his Heisman ballot at ALL. And he voted all SEC in the top 5 spots of the Harris poll. Guys like him should never be given a vote.

Only if you force them to reveal their methods. Right now I think only Sagarin and Cooley have made their methods public. Massey has absolutely refused to the last I read.

That can still be dealt with. But biased, asshole voters aren't going to change, and none of them are ever going to be objective.

Definitely voters

I'd like to see the BCS poll become more computer-based, and remove most of the subjectivity...

What if it was a combo of 6 comp polls and the 2 voter polls

6 Computer Polls and 4 Human Voter Polls. Each poll is 10% of the vote, giving 60% of the "vote" to the computers.

Computers don't have an agenda they just do what they were programmed to do.
There are also enough different computer formulas it more or less evens out.

Strange that we're having this argument and most are down on the voters. Eight years or so ago it was the computers everyone was saying were wrong. So the BCS adjusted the formula to give the computers less influence. Of course the way they did it was stupid but that's another argument.

Love them both.

But trust computers.

Voters can be illogical. Aside from experts like Dr. Lou, of course. Notre Dame should always be in the top 5.

Funny that everyone always rags on OU for their computer rankings which are always high but everyone seems to like computers more than the voters. huh

anyway I agree, voters suck.

Voters for all the reasons posted thus far.

I've seen major shens in the coaches poll...and just straight up WTF from AP voters.

Computers are the only way to do it and be able to stand behind it for what it is. It would be complemented by a governing body making the schedules, as even as possible, as well.

It's the human polls that make the bcs a joke and thus is coming from someone who's team benefits from the voters .

Computers. Voters will usually get it close to right eventually, although they should do away with polls before Week 6 too.
