They also play a shorter season, 11 or 10 games only. I wouldn't be opposed to this but it will definitely cut back OOC games, and possible FCS opponents to pad the record with.

Alabama has only played for a National title once without having won their conference, they shut out LSU in the National title game that year.

That works for me. 9-10 regular season games would be great.

I'd prefer at least an 8 team true playoff series, but this is a great start. If ratified, if the pool never extends beyond 4 teams, it's still better than the present system.
I'm quite aware it will never fuckin happen again, but if the worst happenned and a playoff scenario is rejected, I'd rather the bowls go back to the old rivalries with Big 10 versus Pac 10 every year in the Rose, the SEC in the Sugar and the Big 8....Big 12 (I miss the Big 8!) in the Orange.

Let's root for the Conference Commishes to ratify a playoff.....ASAP!

You realize that for the first 12 years of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, there were only 8 teams, right?

With the addition of 4 teams in that tournament, a lot of people were talking about how it was simply a money grab by the NCAA. They're right, it was. They were grabbing money based on what they thought to be a demand for more sport.

By creating a +1 system, they're laying the groundwork to grow it, while keeping the ability to revert back to the current system if nobody tunes in (unlikely, but possible).

Just wait. as soon as the system gets an amazing TV draw for a few years The proven demand for more will eventually result in additional teams added to the mix. Will it get to 16 within the decade? Maybe not, but I could definitely see 8.

Absolutely. As soon as the parties involved figure out how to make more money by adding more teams it will happen.
