This is the year Iowa basketball turns the corner

And goes back to being a consistent 20+ win team year in and year out. Returning 90% of the scoring and rebounding and adding 2 really nice freshman. Shedule sets up well since Iowas first 13 games are played in state and only 3 or 4 of their opponents are good teams ( Creighton, Iowa State, UNI, Clemson). Should be 10-3 or 11-2 OOC and Iowa also only plays Ohio State, MSU, Michigan and Illinois 1 time this year and they get Indiana, Nebrska, Penn State, NW all 2 times. Should be 10-8 or 11-7 in conference.

Boise is OK but cant see losing to them at home. IPFW is solid as well but at Carver Ill take Iowa. I see a loss to a really good Creighton team and a loss to Iowa State on the road ( Cyclones should be a 20+ win team this year with who they have back plus 4 really good transfers).

While I'm excited for BBall to start, I think that next year is the year that we turn that corner. With the class that is coming in, we have the foundation for a great team.

Sidenote - Ever notice how McCaffery looks like a Will Ferrell character???

I dont think we make the tourney this year since the schedule is so putrid but I think anything less than 19 or 20 wins this year is a letdown. Senior backcourt, another year of experience for Besabe, McCabe and Marble, 2 good freshman in White and Oglesby and Ive heard that Eric May was the best player on the team all spring and summer ( heard that before though so we'll see). Next years class is awesome ( top 15 nationally) and will be great down the line but next year we lose alot of experienced guard play so Im hoping they can start turning it around this year

Eh, the only years in Iowa history that football has been more popular than basketball is about 1990-2010. When I was growing up in the 80's the basketball team was WAY more popular than the football team ( probably cuz the BB team had tradition and way more success). Im still really into the football season but I grew up on Hawkeye basketball more so than football just like most people that are 35 or older.

I don't think Iowa is gonna win in the Hilton this year, but congrats on snatching up some good instate talent for the 2012 class. Hoiberg seems set to recruit on the east coast and hasn't been able to attract any instaters in the top 200. But with that said, still happy with the class he has coming in as well. I think people will be surprised with ISU over the next few seasons. I just hope the meat grinder of the Big 12 doesn't swallow them up.

If all the transfers meld together I think ISU is a tourney team this year.

It's kind of odd I think. For some reason I remember more Hawkeye Basketball in the 90's than football. I think because the NFL was more popular then maybe? However, since Kirk took over it's been pretty easy to put the bulk on football and hope Iowa BB gets its act together. I have a really good feeling about Fran though.. I like where the program is heading.

I think the last 90's football class is when I started watching a lot more Iowa football though.. going to a lot of games and such. This could also be because San Fran started there down trend at the same time and the Cowboys rivalry started to cool its jets.

Yeah alot of people ( even Iowa fans) dont realize the history of Iowa basketball. In 1990 Sports Illustrated ranked Carver Hawkeye Arena as the toughest place to play in the country for opposing teams and even 3 years ago they came out with an ALL TIME top 25 for CBB and Iowa was ranked 8th. 8th! The reality is that the basketball program had had WAY WAY more success than the FB program throughout history.

I watched the first half and it was pretty shit lol. The Hawks were playing pretty bad missed quite a few shots you shouldn't. Creighton looks pretty damn good though.

The Hawks need to work on free throws too :O
