I know I won’t change your mind but the two have the same amount of banners and Woody had way better draft picks and left the organization loaded. While we had the Varitek/Lowe, Cruz, Omar and Tino trade, he also traded for Randy, Dan Wilson and got a great package for Randy and Junior along with convincing Lou to come. Gillick left the roster old and ready for a collapse.
You are right...on the first part. :)

Of course...

Beyond the major league shuffling, the M’s provided an update on one of their top minor league infield talents. Colt Emerson, whom Seattle took with the 22nd pick in last year’s draft, will miss some time for Low-A Modesto. MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer tweets that Emerson recently suffered a fracture after fouling a ball off his foot and is expected to be out of action for 4-6 weeks. The 18-year-old is a consensus top 100 minor league talent. He was out to an excellent .271/.441/.414 start with more walks than strikeouts over 19 games before the injury.

Not sure if true or not but saw on Twitter that Montes, Locklear and Farmelo all got into the top 100. But I really think Ford and Locklear will be dealt.
Ya I read that the other day. I think it was either ESPN or Baseball America.

I’m starting to wonder if they’d rather trade him over Ford.
Article I read was all about them wanting to trade Ford. Inside intimation or a guess? Not sure.

I’m just confused cause they traded Hunt who was controllable. So if they trade Ford they literally have no one and will have to waste prospects or bottom barrel shop for a catcher next year. Seby sucks and the dude they got back supposedly is just a body.

I have no clue either. They had the perfect backup catcher but they think those guys are a dime a dozen. Just look at what they have gone through over the last few years. They give no value to them.

Bu trying to guess there plan is just foolishness. They have no plan. They DFA'd Miller the RP who is a nobody but was doing well only to be forced to trade the catcher for a worse RP and a worse catcher. All to open up a spot on the 40 man? Makes perfect Dipoto sense.

I thought at one point the plan was to groom Harry Ford into a third baseman, not a catcher

In spring he gave an interview where he was very passive aggressive on that he is a catcher. It was right after the reports came out that they were going to try him at different positions, then they never did.

I might be wrong on this, but I think during Gillick's tenure, the Mariners had a higher-ranked payroll, when compared to the other teams, than any other GM's tenure that we had. I always thought he was brought in because he was an experienced high-payroll GM and ownership wanted him in place to help market the transition from the Kingdome to Safeco Field. I guess it is irony that he traded Griffey and let ARod walk, but those two were going to leave anyway.

I liked him because he got cheap ass Mariners owners to do things they were never comfortable to do before or since and that is spend. Yes he was a go-for-it GM, but would you prefer the slow and steady 23 year approach? I would trade everything for one guaranteed chance at the ring. We were never designed for a dynasty here in Seattle for whatever reason so you give me a one shot GM and I will live with that for the rest of my life smiling all the way.

Rainiers get one-hit by Las Vegas, win the game anyway 6-1. Lone hit was a grand slam by Jason Vosler - amazingly, they didn't need the hit, scored two other runs without one. Great start for Casey Lawrence 6.2 IP 3 H 1 R 1 BB 5 K. Homestand ends Sunday at 1:35.
